Scotch’s mission is to modernize one of the oldest industries on earth: the $1.6T beverage alcohol market. We’re starting by building the next-generation operating system for BevAlc retailers (POS, payments, back office, ecommerce). If you love Rails, solving real-world problems, and want to work with a team that is more talent-dense than osmium, we’d love to talk.
Our founding team comprises the exec team from Skupos (a c-store software company acquired for 9-figures in 2023), the founders of SimpleCircle (ERP for breweries acquired in 2024), and engineers from other top technology companies. We’ve raised $10MM to build and scale Scotch from tier-one VCs like First Round, Lerer Hippeau, and Toba Capital, as well as strategic angels like the founder of Drizly, founding executives of Toast, and others.
We are seeking a full-stack engineer with a proclivity for the front end to join our very early-stage engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a high-quality, mission-critical web application using Ruby on Rails + Hotwire and following the best practices in modern web development.
We’re a small, nimble team. We all wear multiple hats (our founder/CEO even cooks breakfast at team offsites), but the core responsibilities of this role include…
You're a senior rails engineer who has built relevant systems before, and this is not an area you have to ramp up on. While we don't require any formal qualifications and value learning new skills—especially from one another—the list below is a list of things we’re keeping our eyes out for. We are looking for someone who feels a sense of duty to the users of their work.

Bonus Points:
Company building is a team sport, and we aim to win the World Championships. Many companies refer to their colleagues as “families,” and we couldn’t disagree further with that framing. We’re looking for heat-seeking missiles that aspire to be the absolute best in their field, to constantly raise the bar amongst their peers, and to win. We’re a low-ego, high-outcome-focused crew with a strict no-asshole policy.
We are an equal opportunity employer. We don’t discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We also consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law, including but not limited to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
