About Us
WasteStart is building a modern ERP platform for the waste industry. We've recently completed a successful seed funding round and are growing our team.
Our mission is to help waste and recycling companies run more efficiently through better software — and support them on their journey to leverage AI and data more effectively in day-to-day operations.
We work hybrid-first, with a Glasgow HQ available for team collaboration.
What You’ll Do
You’ll join a small, experienced team working directly with customers to design, build, and improve the core WasteStart platform. You’ll have ownership from top to bottom — UI to database — and be involved in product thinking, not just implementation.
Expect to:
- Build and ship new features in our Rails 8 app using Hotwire, Stimulus, and Turbo Native
- Work closely with customers and the team to understand workflows and design solutions
- Own the features you build — from design and testing through to deployment and feedback
- Help us improve our architecture, developer experience, and internal tooling as we grow
Our Stack
- Ruby on Rails 8
- Hotwire (Turbo, Stimulus, Turbo Native)
- PostgreSQL
- TailwindCSS
- ViewComponent
- Minitest
- GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and modern dev workflows
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need to tick every box, but you might be a good fit if you:
- Have solid experience with Ruby on Rails and enjoy working across the full stack
- Are comfortable building modern UIs with Hotwire and Stimulus (or excited to learn)
- Care about building great user experiences and value customer feedback
- Take ownership and pride in what you build — from the database to the button click
- Prefer working in a small, fast-moving, product-focused team
- An interest in developing solutions that allow our customers to leverage AI in a meaningful and useful way
- Are curious about how AI can support your development work — and are excited to use it to augment your skills, not replace them
Nice to Haves
- Experience with mobile apps (especially Turbo Native)
- Background in B2B or ERP-style products
- Interest in the environmental or waste sectors
Why Join WasteStart?
- Be part of a purpose-driven company modernising a neglected industry
- Shape a product early in its lifecycle
- Work closely with customers, not just specs
- Use modern dev tools and AI-assisted workflows
- Hybrid work environment with an office in Glasgow
- Competitive salary and flexibility

We’d love to hear from you.
